Travel Recommendations

The purchase of this ticket does NOT include airfare or travel costs. We highly recommend checking Southwest Airlines or Alaska Airlines for the best deals on tickets. Hawaiian Airlines also can have specials running for the month of November. We suggest arriving in Kauai no later than Wednesday, November 1st as the event starts early in the morning on Thursday, November 2nd. We cannot easily accommodate late arrivals, however, if you do find yourself running behind schedule make sure to contact one of our staff as soon as possible so we can make arrangements to meet you (see email after ticket purchase).

You will also need to rent a vehicle to enable you to get to the Koke'e State Park area to meet us. Thrifty Rental Cars have been one of the more affordable options we have used in the past. There are also daily parking and use fees required to park and access the hiking locations. See this website for more information about camping, parking, and use fees. The Kauai Bus line 100/200 is an option and can take you from the Lihue airport to Waimea. This bus does not go from Waimea to Koke'e State Park and the only option is to take a taxi from Waimea to the State Park. If renting a vehicle is a limiting factor for you, please message us and may be able to help you find other solutions.

On-site Lodging Information

The event will be based at the historic Koke'e Civilian Conservation Corps Camplocated in Koke‘e State Park. Built in 1935, it is also on the National Register for Historic Places. The facility is managed by Hui o Laka, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, formed in 1954 to operate the fledgling Kōkeʻe Natural History Museum. The Biodiversity Collective is a proud supporter and member of Hui o Laka, and we recommend becoming a member by donating on their website.

Guests staying on-site will have access to 'Barracks C' and the Mess Hall attached to the building. Please be aware that the camp only provides beds, no bedding included. Guests will need to provide their own pillow and sleeping bag or blankets.

A Site Plan of CCC Camp can be found here

Off-site Lodging Recommendations

The Cabins at Koke'e State Park

We highly recommend reserving a cabin at Koke'e State Park. They are the most centrally located off-site lodging option for this event. Please make sure to read all the details about the cabins before booking a reservation.

Camping at Koke'e State Park

For the most budget friendly option, you can camp at Koke'e State Park. The campsites are around $30/night and you can have multiple tents in your campsite. The location of the campsites will be a very centrally located lodging option for this event. Please make sure to read all the details about camping rules and regulations before booking a reservation.

Waimea, Kauai, HI

Waimea is the nearest town to Koke'e State Park. It is about a 40 min drive to Koke'e from here. There are many lodging options available in Waimea, and we are happy to help with recommendations! Send us a message on our contact page more information.

Participation Information

Part of this event will consist of hiking in slippery and muddy conditions. We classify these hikes as intermediate to advanced due to the length of the hikes and the potential for severe weather. You will receive an email after your purchase with a recommended equipment list. We highly advise you to read it thoroughly for important safety information and gear recommendations.

If you have mobility or health concerns that may impact your ability to hike long distances, please contact us BEFORE purchasing a ticket so we can discuss your options for participation.
