Research Volunteer

Chase is a mycologist focused on mushroom cultivation and integrating fungi into gardens, farms, and community landscapes. He operates Backyard Regeneration, a tropical mushroom research and development farm, where he develops low-tech cultivation methods using local materials and waste streams.

His work spans cultivation, field mycology, and education, including building community fungal resources in Hawaiʻi, contributing to Fungi Magazine, and authoring A Field Guide to Poisonous Mushrooms of Hawaiʻi. He regularly teaches workshops, leads identification walks, and mentors within local agricultural and community science programs.
