THE BIODIVERSITY COLLECTIVE

INTRODUCING
BIODIVERSITY
COLLECTIVE

Our Mission
Biodiversity Collective works to uncover and document the underrepresented life forms that play essential roles in the ecosystems we depend on. Through field-based research, collaborative learning, and public engagement, we aim to bring attention to the hidden biodiversity around us—bridging gaps between science, education, and conservation.

What We Do
As an educational event organization, we focus on organisms that tend to fall outside the spotlight of conventional ecological research—fungi being a key example. We coordinate biodiversity surveys, lead field-based learning experiences, and build partnerships with scientists, land stewards, and curious community members. By making biodiversity science more participatory and inclusive, we contribute valuable data while also inspiring stewardship rooted in awareness and connection.

Our Research Projects
Our work has included coordinating fungal biodiversity surveys in unique and ecologically important regions, such as the island of Kauaʻi and the Elwha River watershed in Washington State. These projects bring together scientists, students, local experts, and land managers to document species that are often missed in traditional surveys. Each project not only adds to our collective understanding of these ecosystems but also fosters collaboration and community involvement in ongoing stewardship efforts.

Get Involved
We’re always looking to connect with curious individuals, researchers, educators, land managers, and organizations who share our passion for biodiversity. Whether you want to attend an event, propose a collaboration, or simply learn more about the lesser-known life forms around us, we would love to hear from you.
